RIGA CITY BREAK

 4 days/ 3 nights

Day 1 Arrival to Riga. Private transfer from the airport to the  hotel. Accommodation. Free time to enjoy hansaetic city.

 

Day 2 Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting your guide. Get to know Riga’s Old Town on a walking tour, and view the city’s historical highpoints. As you stroll from sight to sight, hear about the city’s past as a mighty seaport during the Middle Ages, and enjoy photo stops at the prettiest medieval landmarks, such as the Old Guild House, Powder Tower and magnificent House of the Blackheads. Learn about the Riga’s role as a member of the powerful Hanseatic League between the 1400s and 1600s, and discover must-sees such as St Peter’s Church and the Swedish Gate. Visit impresive Art Noveau district.

 

Day 3 Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting your English speaking guide. Full day Gauja National park tour. Latvia’s first national park protects a very leafy hinterland popular for hiking, biking, backcountry camping, canoeing and a slew of offbeat adrenalin sports. Pass by famous Sigulda and visit Livonian Turaida’s castles. Later drive through deep forest to Gutmana Cave and enjoy spectacular landscape. Return to Riga for overnight.

 

Optional. Ligatne Soviet bunker visit. The route then takes us to a Soviet bunker hidden underneath a health spa of sorts - Ligatne rehabilitation centre. It is a formerly secret government bunker built in 1980s from where the Soviet administrative affairs were supposed to be kept running in case of nuclear war. The bunker is a well-equipped facility spanning 2000 square metres. Its secrecy grading was removed only in 2003, and all of the original furnishings have been retained. Tour includes: transportation, entrance tickets, guided tour.

 

Day 4 Breakfast at the hotel. Free time. Private transfer to the airport. Departure.

Optional. Jewish Riga tour ( 3 h. walking + car). In the museum “Jews in Latvia” you will learn about life of Jews in this part of the world. Pass by the site of Jewish Ghetto and visit the only remaining Synagogue, which today serves as the central meeting place for the Jews of Latvia. Standing since the beginning of the 20th century, the synagogue was most likely spared from burning due to its fortunate location in the Old Town, where fires could be devastating to the surrounding buildings. Riga ghtetto and Latvian Holokaust museum. Tour includes: guide of selected language, private transport service, entrance tickets to the museum "Jews of Latvia", Riga synagogue.
