EXPRESS WEEKEND BREAK VILNIUS

 

Day 1 Arrival to Vilnius. Private transfer to the hotel. Accommodation. Free time for lunch, time to relax. In the afternoon 3 h Vilnius city tour with guide of selected language. The tour will introduce you to the rich  history of Lithuanian capital and reveal the charm of the city‘s heart. Variety of architectural styles, cozy alleys and yards, each hiding a legend behind will make you fall in love with Vilnius. See the panoramic view from Gediminas Castle Tower or St. John‘s Bell Tower, impressive Castle street, gothic masterpiece – St. Ann‘s church, Amber Gallery, Baroque Vilnius University and miraclous Gates of Dawn.

 

Optional in the evening Lithuanian beer degustation & dinner. Have a short tour in Lithuanian beer restaurant – brewery, try 5 different kinds of beer, hot dish from a selected menu & traditional Lithuanian beer snacks.

Day 2 Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting your guide, trip to Trakai (28 km from Vilnius). Trakai - the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.  Visit the 15th century Insular Trakai Castle housing an exhibition on prehistoric findings and applied art of 17-18th century, the way of life of the Lithuanian Grand Dukes, and the Karaites, brought to Lithuania from the Crimean Peninsular.  Later – lunch in traditional karaites restorant. You will have a chance to try out unique karaites liqueur.

 

Optional tour to Uzutrakis Manor. We strongly recommend visit recently renovated  Uzutrakis manor, which like a white swan flaunts  on the shore of Galve lake and provides a spectacular view to Trakai castle. 

 

Return to Vilnius. Free time to walk around, get souvenirs and try local specialties. Overnight.

 

Day 3 Breakfast at the hotel. Free time. Private transfer to the airport. Departure.

 

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES:

• Jewish tour Vilnius ( 4 h. walking + car). Vilnius used to be a very important Jewish center in Europe. From the 14th century onwards Jews settled in the city and by the 18th century Vilnius had become the world center of traditional Talmudic learning, eventually known as the Jerusalem of the North. Many famous Judaism scholars and rabbis lived and worked in Vilnius; that is why over the 700 years of their presence in Lithuania Jews created a rich and diverse culture. During the tour you will visit Medieval Jewish quarter, Jewish ghettos, Choral synagogue, learn about the prototype of Doctor Dolittle  - Zemach Shabad, one of the most famous French writters – Romain Gary. In Vilna Gaon Jewish State Museum you will get to know about Jewish life, art in Lithuania and Shoah. Last, but not least – Vilna Gaon‘s grave, where many come to ask for blessing. Tour includes: guide of selected language, private transport service, entrance tickets to Jewish State museum.

• The tour of  Vilnius Cathedral catacombs  will show the history of Lithuanian Grand Dukes and provide a unique chance to see the royal mausoleum, the oldest Lithuanian fresco and the remains of ancient cathedrals which used to stand on the same site ages ago. Here you will hear the story of Lithaunian Romeo & Juliet – Barbora Radvilaite and Zygimantas Augustas.

• KGB museum tour. This is a historical-memorial museum forming its collections following thematic principle. Historical-documentary material reflecting repression taken against the inhabitants of Lithuania by occupational regimes (1940-1990), material on the anti-Soviet and anti-Nazi resistance, information about participants of struggles for freedom and victims of genocide are accumulated.
